City Lights

City lights
Blocking out
The blackest sky
A star ridden blanket
Hidden by
City lights
Walking the streets
Looking up
Seeing nothing
Because of
City lights
Singing softly
To God above
City lights
Obscure my view
Of God's great creation
Vast and endless
Masked behind
City lights
Loaded prayers
Heavy questions
Directed towards
City lights
God in Heaven
Hear my cries
As I stand
Under these
City lights

  1. Very beautiful, nice use of imagery. I often do something similar, look up at the sky and get disheartened when all you can see is the harsh glare of the street lamps. I wonder which city you were imagining when you wrote this? Little Cali has a lot of lights for such a small town.

  2. Lil Cal is indeed the city I was thinking of. Because back home I live well out into the country and there are no lights to glare out the night sky.

  3. That's beautiful. Somehow reminds me of an all time favorite poem- http://www.poets.org/viewmedia.php/prmMID/15551
